Lauren (Ren) Henry
Ren was born and raised in east Texas. Though they were born and present as female, Ren prefers they/them pronouns and identifies as being gender non-binary.
The summer after graduating high school they took a Greyhound bus 17 hours to Buena Vista, Co. This would be the first of many travels in Ren’s life and also when they began to realize they wanted to commit to creating lasting positive change in our world. As the middle child of a large blended family, Ren has connections to siblings of different ages, ethnicities and physical, mental and emotional abilities. According to their mom, when they were a child Ren wanted to “work with kids, help a lot of people, be a teacher and travel the world.”
In their early 20s, Ren co-created a small non-profit program for adolescents who identified as HSP (highly sensory people/heightened sense perception) and also began working with impacted youth in the areas of addiction, abuse and recovery. Ren fell in love with the healing arts and became a massage therapist and began facilitating and creating curriculums for workshops on authentic relating and reclaiming personal power. These passions have enabled them to travel to 5 countries offering safe spaces and tools to hundreds of individuals. Ren studied psychology, music, theater, early childhood development, ASL and dance during their years in college. Before coming to Challenge Day, they were a nanny and operating their healing business. This past year, Ren was inspired to work with large groups of people and focus on systemic change. It was this desire that eventually led to a conversation about Challenge Day!
Through Ren’s many life experiences, they are able to offer a deep well of compassion and understanding for the struggles and joys of others. Today's youth is tomorrow's hope, and they deserve the help, support, advice and love they need to move forward in following their hopes and dreams. With an innate understanding of the micro and macrocosm of existence, Ren knows that one drop of hope can create a ripple that is powerful enough to change our world for the better, and they intend to do their best to enact this knowing in as many ways as possible.
